Pam Proctor, the Program Officer for the University of Nevada’s Cooperative Extension, has developed an extensive ongoing program for the Valley Gardeners. On Wednesday evening, January 9, the first in a short 4-week series of video conferencing classes, the eager gardeners learned the steps of choosing the right colors and scents for the garden being created.
These classes are taught by Master Gardeners from Las Vegas.
I was delighted with the information provided, but mainly just to receive the thought that one could create a painting with just a little effort. I had always just hoped that the thing I planted would live more than one day! Instead of just choosing a durable, desert variety of plant, one can actually have a plan! By creating a master drawing of the background, the colors which are next to each other and the fragrance desired, the gardener can achieve a desert-proof, durable, showy and aesthetic masterpiece.
The remaining three classes in this series of free workshops are: 1-16 – Planting Warm-Season Vegetables; 1-23 – Pruning and Planting Roses; and 1-30 – Edible Landscapes. In addition, there will be an 8 week Landscape Design Class beginning February 5th as well as a Master Gardener’s Class beginning that same evening. Proctor stated with enthusiasm that a new Mobile classroom was being added to the grounds and should be available in time for these classes. In addition, the gardener has use of the Master Gardener Helpline (702-257-5555) Monday thru Friday, 8 to 5, or they can call the local Extension number listed above for additional help.
