MV Riders Organize For Coming Year

The Moapa Valley Riders organization is excited to start its new season. In November the group finished its last gymkhana of the year with a good turn out. The MV Riders held an awards dinner at the Old Overton Gym in December. Sugars catered dinner for the club, and year-end awards were presented to the participants with the high point for the season.

The Adult Class of Riders this year consisted of 19 participants. First place award went to Shelly Logan. Lita Evans received second place; Cori Leachman, third; Terri Romero, fourth; and Angela Abdule, fifth place.

The Senior Class of Riders consisted of six participants. First place went to Kerrie Gurule, Second place went to Kayla Leachman, third place went to Alyssa O’Toole, fourth place went to Jenet Mraz, and fifth place went to Carly Alexander.

The Junior Class consisted of 15 participants. First place went to Erin Nelibrger, Second place to Katlyn Graham, Third place to Shayla Pratt, Fourth place to Makenzie Bush, and Fifth place to Colton Podemski.

The Peewee Class consisted of 12 participants. First place went to Nathan Witter, Second place to Dani Elle Russo, Third place to Gary Pratt, Fourth place to Madison Bush, and Fifth place to Layne Logan.

The Beginners Class consisted of 17 participants. First place went to Andun Pratt, second place to Hannah Mayo, third place to Payton Houston, fourth place to Faith Witter, and fifth place went to Janai Musuch.

Each year the club elects its new officers. For the year 2008, officers will include: Anita Shanahan, president, Bonnie McGrew, Vice President, Dixie Wolf, Treasurer and Candis Mayo, Secretary.

Club members expressed apprciation to 2007 officers, President Tamara Woods, Vice President Shirley Alexander, Dixie Wolf Treasurer, and Secretary Heather Pratt for making 2007 a great year.

Gymkhana events this year are going to consist of some new events. These will include the banana race, egg race, sew the button, and will, of course, still have barrel racing, pole bending & mutton busting.

“We like to have something for all ages whether you are 2 years old or 60 years old,” said MV Riders Secretary, Candis Mayo. “And we are always welcome to new members.”

The group’s first General meeting will be held at the Old Overton Gym on January 26 at 6 pm and is open to the public. The first gymkhana event for the year will be February 16 at 9am sign-in will be from 8am – 8:45am at the Clark County Fairgrounds.
