It was a special evening on Thursday, January 17, for a group of little girls and their families. The ‘Dancing Diva’s’ performed their first ever dance recital at the Mack Lyon Middle School Auditorium.
It was only a few short months ago when Instructor Monica Dominquez began her search for girls interested in learning dance with a Tap and Ballet combo class.
Dominquez got a good response and started her class with eight young ladies age 3 -5.
Each Friday the girls have dance class at the Old Overton Gym where Dominquez and her assistant Sonya Valerio teach listening skills, motor skills, social skills, dance positions and technique.
They have been worked hard to perform at their first recital. “The kids were excited to show their parents what they had been learning for the past few months” stated Dominquez. Performing for the recital were students Amiah Dominquez, Aleecia Huerta, Emma Brewer, Sarah Culp, Rilee Campbell, Zoe Zubia, McKenzie Caldwell, and Elizabeth Stucki.
“The recital was great, short and sweet!” stated Dominquez.
Starting off the recital was a tap number to ‘Bang Bang Orang O Tango’. The girls also performed a ribbon dance to ‘Running Down The Hill” and a Ballet number to ‘Dance of the Sugarplum Fairy’.
In addition to the young dance class performances, Valerio along with friend and fellow dancer Michaela Coburn performed a dance for the audience. Another dancer, Olivia Dominquez performed a special dance for the group as well.
“The parents thought they did an awesome job and I was so pleased with the results,” said Dominquez.
