MVHS Teacher Inducted Into Forensics Hall of Fame

Moapa Valley Progress

After twelve successful years as the Head Coach of the Moapa Valley High School Forensics Team, Harold Tusler was recognized at the Clark County Division Tournament on February 2, by being inducted into the CCSD Forensics Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony coincided with Moapa Valley’s winning their third consecutive division championship.

During the ceremony, Scott Ginger, the chairman of the Nevada Forensics Association, and Karen Vaughan, the chairwoman of the Golden Desert Forensics League, recognized Tusler as one of the best coaches in the district for his consistent approach in putting together a winning team year after year for Moapa Valley. Ginger, who is also a member of the Hall of Fame, said Tusler’s achievements are because he stresses one word, dignity.

After this introduction, former MVHS debate-great, Chris Wallace, spoke on behalf of Tusler’s current and former students, speaking passionately about the amount of dedication that Tusler puts in as, not only a coach, but as a friend and confidant.

Tusler accepted a plaque indicating his induction by saying that he has been impacted by his students more than he has impacted them. Tusler joked with the crowd by also saying he is the only person in the world to be a member of the Montana Forensics Hall of Fame and the Nevada Forensics Hall of Fame. Several of Tusler’s current students had raving comments after the ceremony over Tusler’s induction.

“I am so thrilled that one of the great coaches in Nevada forensics has finally gotten the recognition he deserves,” said Jonathan Oglesby, a three-year competitor for the Pirate Speech and Debate Team. “When Tusler showed up in the Moapa Valley as an educator twelve years ago, MVHS didn’t have a forensics team. This evening, we won our third consecutive division championship and look to ‘three-peat’ as the State Champs this year. I think that shows not only what a great coach he is, but what a great man he is”.
