Donkey Basketball To Return

Rachel Brandes
Moapa Valley Progress

Mike Jack, Perkins Elementary Librarian sits steady atop his donkey in last year's Donkey Basketball competition at Moapa Valley High School.

The Moapa Valley High School gym will be filled with donkeys on Monday, February 25 beginning at 7:00 p.m. Yes real donkeys! If you missed the event last year you don’ t want to miss it this year. Donkey Basketball is back and looks to be better than ever.

The MVHS Baseball team is providing this evening of entertainment as a fund raiser for the baseball organization. Pre-event tickets are on sale now, adults $6, students (7-12) $5, and children (k-6) $4. Tickets at the door will be $1 more per ticket.

There are four teams scheduled to compete in this year’s Donkey Basketball. First up will be the MVHS Seniors vs. MVHS Faculty. The second game will be between Firemen and Metro Officers. The winner of each game will compete against each other for the championship title.

If you hadn’t guessed already, the games will be played by players who are riding donkeys. Safety is of the utmost importance while participating in Donkey Basketball. Officials will be on hand to keep the games under control and assist the players when needed.

In addition, the gym floors will be safe! The Donkeys will be wearing rubber shoes for protection and a few lucky kids will be cleaning up an residual mess left behind by the four legged friends.

Tickets can be purchased from any MVHS baseball player or by contacting Coach Jim Vallet at 397-8610 or 397-8092.
