A Senior Health and Wellness Fair was held at the Senior Center in Overton on Thursday, February 21. Several booths were set up with representatives providing free information and give-a-ways to local seniors. The event was sponsored by the Clark County Senior Advocate Program.
This program is a Community Outreach Program. The Senior Advocate Office spends time actively seeking out seniors. Doing so through community events and senior organizations looking for seniors to promote awareness of the programs available.
Representatives from the Advocate Program were available as well as HELP of Southern Nevada, Secure Horizons by United Healthcare, Wells Fargo, State of Nevada Office of the Governor Consumer Health Assistance, US Mortgage, The Reverse Mortgage Specialists, Social Security Administration, Clark County Nuclear Waste Program, AARP, Representative from Senator Harry Reid’s office as well as Senator John Ensign’s office, and Nevada Health Centers, Inc. Senior Foot Clinic.
Senator Warren Hardy, Congressman Jon Porter along with Commissioners Bruce Woodbury and Tom Collins were also in attendance for the afternoon of information sharing.
“Nobody seems to remember the last time a free health fair was held here,” stated Senior Center Director Jim Purkey. Purkey explained that he would love to see this Health and Wellness Fair become and annual event. “If they will come back that would be great!” he said.
