I Have Another Question

By Esther Ramos
Submitted Mar. 26, 2008

How do we think we can choose a president based on so few talking points and sound bytes? How many times do we need to hear that so and so voted to go into Iraq and so and so didn’t?

Do we not know that Franklin Roosevelt took us into World War II? Did Germany attack us? No. Japan did. Four hundred and fifty thousand lives were lost from 1941 to 1945 at an average of 112,500 each year.

Not only did President Truman finish that war for us, he went and started us into one in Korea after that. Did North Korea attack us? No, no they didn’t. Fifty-five thousand lives were lost from 1950 to 1953, at an average of 18,334 per year.

Didn’t John Kennedy take us into the Vietnam conflict in 1962? Did Vietnam attack us? Again, no. No, they didn’t. Didn’t President Johnson turn Vietnam into a “quagmire”? And weren’t about 58,000 lives lost from 1965 to 1975, at an average of about 5,800 young souls per year?

O.K., so that’s more than one question. That’s my point. When was the last time we thought of these past problems we’ve gotten into for the sake of freedom? Didn’t Clinton go to war in Bosnia without U.N. or French consent? Bosnia never attacked us, did they? Wasn’t he offered Osama bin Laden’s head on a platter three times by the Sudanese government, and did nothing? Hasn’t Osama, along with his people, attacked us on more than one occasion? The last time we heard from bin Laden, wasn’t he asking when we could expect to see some changes now that the Democrats are in control of Congress? Remember that? Haven’t we crippled Al Queda and put nuclear inspectors in Libya and Iran and North Korea without firing a shot?

Why are some people lamenting about how long the war is taking? Didn’t it take less time to topple that statue in Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Dividian compound? (By the way, that was a 51 day operation.) Haven’t we been looking for evidence of chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records? Didn’t it take less time for the Third Infantry Division and Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his Oldsmobile sank in Chappaquiddick? Didn’t it take less time to overthrow Hussein than it took to count the votes in Florida?

Our Commander-in-Chief does not seem to be second guessing the commanders on the ground and military morale is high. Why are the biased media and the controlling party in Congress trying the give the terrorists and the enemy an attack date for which to prepare by trying to forecast a pull-out date?

But wait…There’s more…Just so you know there were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January of 2008. In the lovely city of Detroit, Michigan, there were 35 murders in the month of January. And that’s just one American city, just about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of Iraq. How many casualties were there in the Los Angeles area? How many did we have in the Las Vegas area? I’m just asking.
