Shirley Beth Baird, age 81, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Valley Hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada after struggling with cancer. She was born May 19, 1926 in Bagley, Iowa to William Albert and Julia Ann Vaux Grassmeier. On February 3, 1946 she was married to Gerald Arthur Westwick in Twin Falls, Idaho, they had 3 children and were later divorced. In 1962 she married Hiram Owen Baird in Rapid City, South Dakota. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Shirley spent the early years of her life in Iowa, growing up there and starting her family. She later moved her family to South Dakota, California and Louisiana before settling in Boulder City, Nevada in 1969. She loved to watch “The Price Is Right”, read and play cards. She loved her children and she was a devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include four children: Geral Ann and husband, Gary Basham of Bakersfield, CA; Michelle Tillery of Pahrump, NV; Laurie Sue and husband Michael Antonio of Billings, MT; William Owen Baird of Pahrump, NV; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; two brothers: Bill Grassmeier of Logandale, NV and John Grassmeier of Boulder City, NV.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Private family services will be held. Arrangements under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.
