The first monthly Mesa View Hospital Healthy Woman program was held at on April 17. The meeting’s content was concerning STRESS.
You know how these programs usually go – a lot of “fou fou?” Well, there was “fou fou” here, too. The cookies and cream puffs were to die for! The massages were magnificent. Friend, Betty, ranted and raved about the one she had just received from Samantha Martin, a massage therapist that works at Back & Body Care Central in Mesquite. The glide point balls and dynaflex ball and yoga mat offered by that business were grrrrreaaatttt! Then Skinvincible gave info about their medi-day spa retreat and Oasis Chiropractic Center was giving those wonderful stress releasing massages.
The difference here was that there was also substance. Once the social time had passed, some very knowledgeable, positive professionals took the floor.
Missy Crew, the hospital’s Healthy Woman Programs Coordinator, lead the event with Mesa View Regional Hospital CEO, Sue Conley, in hot pursuit. Ms. Conley has a very down-to-earth and funnier-than-heck delivery. Her sack of “My Favorite Things” (which cannot be gone into at this time), was a favorite with the large, responsive audience.
Jana, of the Edge Athletic Club, interjected her ‘Deep Thoughts” throughout the evening. A favorite was “You don’t have to be a victim of stress – either improve it, wear it (accept and stop complaining) or get out.”
Mary Ochs, a professional golfer, advised to “Keep your head down,” “Eye on the Ball,” “Left Arm Straight.” If you think about it, that is the advice that was reiterated throughout the evening.
From the information given by Sarah Laidlaw, a Clinical Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Educator to that by Certified Trainer of The Edge Athletic Club, Robin Lyons, and on to Dr. Enrique Alfaro, the message was all about PMA (Positive Mental Attitude). We’ve all read and heard about stress and have had our fair share. We know the benefits of exercising, eating properly, getting enough sleep and all the down side that stress brings. Could the solution be as simple as PMA?
The next monthly meeting will be May 15 in the Lobby at the Mesa View Regional Hospital at 6:30 P.M. The subject will be Joint Replacement. Area women are encouraged to come and bond, learn some good tips and have a good time.
