The Moapa Valley High School Junior/Senior Prom was held under a sky of blue and silver balloons on Saturday evening, April 19. The MVHS Student Council decorations provided a cozy Fairy Tale feel to the evening. This was in perfect harmony with the theme of the night “If I Had One Wish”.

A total of 8,000 balloons made up the ceiling and entry way into the dance. As students entered the gym they walked through a magical balloon archway and into the Prom.

Greeting students were Principal Grant Hanevold, Dean of Students Tracy Cardinal and teachers Ms. Genseal and Mr. May. Student Council Advisor Charlie Cooper was all over the place making sure things were running smoothly.

Cooper and the Student Council spent many hours planning and decorating for this event. With lighted trees, the balloons, the table decorations, pillars and plants in the entrance, it was a sight to behold.

Another sight was the students. The girls all looked like beautiful princesses in their gowns and the boys ever so handsome in their suits and tuxedos.

The hair was another sight. Hairdos were creative and fun. A couple of girls gave their hair a special sparkle by sticking cell phone stickers in their hair. It gave a gentle sparkle which was pleasing to the eye. It will be interesting to hear how easily they got those stickers out of their hair at the end of the evening.

Junior Class King Tyler Lomprey, Junior Class Queen Grace Turner, Senior Class Queen Kyle Peterson, and Senior Class King Cody McCracken. MVHS 2008 Prom Royalty was named on Saturday, April 19 during the Junior/Senior Prom.

There were 78 couples that had pre-purchased tickets for the dance. Approximately 25 additional couples bought tickets at the door. That makes over 200 students in attendance at this years Prom.

Providing the entertainment was DJ Dale Dudley. Dudleys day job is as a bus driver for Faith Lutheran. Dudley had to be booked early as his schedule fills up quickly. “He does a great job” stated Cooper.

Also helping out was freshman Josh Thompson. Thompson was the non-official water boy for the evening. Thompson was responsible for keeping the drinking water filled inside the dance. He was seen going back and forth many times with full pitchers of water. Way to go Josh!

To keep the Prom memories alive, Lindsay Dalley was on hand as the official photographer for the evening. Dalley, along with wife Jorene and daughters Trine and Rachel, photographed all couples. The backdrop was a magnificent scene designed by MVHS student Josh Hardy. The Dalleys had a great set up. After the photos were taken, they were displayed on a nearby screen for everybody to enjoy.

All in attendance seemed to have a great time enjoying each others company and dancing the night away. A brief break was taken to announce the Prom Kings and Queens before the end of the evening. The Juniors crowned were Tyler Lomprey as King and the adorable Grace Turner as Queen. For the Senior class Cody McCracken was crowed King and the beautiful Kyle Peterson was crowned Queen. All candidates received flowers and crowns.
