Ute V. Perkins Elementary School celebrated its annual May Day Dance on Thursday, May 8 with an evening of fun and laughter. Music and Art teacher Mr. Vincent Dasal provided some new and interesting performances to go along with the traditional May Pole Dance. In celebration of May Day, Perkins held a Spring Dance Festival in which students were given the opportunity to showcase their talents.

The Early Childhood program performed in brightly colored shirts that made up a rainbow.

These little ones danced to none other than “Making a Rainbow”. Kindergarten was up next with a fun dance to “Hip Hop Hokey Pokey”. The 4th and 5th grade Clincker Team was up next which consists of a talented group of young ladies. This unique performance was a definite crowd pleaser.

Mr. Dorsey’s 2nd grade students used their own shovels to perform a dance to “Holes”. Very clever Mr. Dorsey.

The 4th and 5th grade girls returned to perform an 80’s dance. The girls used moves that were popular in the 80’s.

Mrs. Pulsipher’s 2nd grade class dressed as clowns came out to perform Circus Time. With one student in the middle of a circle holding a triangle and the others surrounding her in pairs, these kids provided some giggles. Kids took turns hula hooping, jumping rope, juggling, playing mime, performing rope tricks, patty cake, and batons.

The 1st graders hit the floor with a performance that gave the biggest laughs of the night. These kids danced to a song called “Tooty Ta”. This dance had the kids making some silly dance moves. Parents were then asked to join their kids and dance the Tooty Ta, which they did in good spirits.

The 3rd grade danced to Alabama Gal, 4th grade to Sweets of May and the 5th graders danced the traditional May Pole Dance. Parents joined in for their traditional role to wrap and unwrap the May Pole with their kids.
