The Muddy River Spanish Branch held a very successful fundraiser on Saturday, May 17. The plan was to raise money to help the Scouts in the Branch attend their annual Camp Geronimo and the Young Women to attend thier summer camp as well. The Young Men and Women planned an authentic Mexican food dinner to be held in the Logandale Park. Tickets were sold ahead of time, $5 per plate. “We sold nearly 400 tickets with the pre-sales.” said Willie Johnson, one of the event coordinators. |

| Tickets per plate on the day of the event were $7 but that didn’t stop near 300 to 400 more people from coming and purchasing a plate of food. With approximately 800 people in attendance it was a good thing this event was scheduled for a five hour block of time.
“The first family arrived just before 3:00 pm.” stated Johnson who admitted they wondered when hungry folks would begin arriving. After that a steady stream of locals made their way to the Logandale Park to enjoy the home cooked meal and company of fellow neighbors. Thanks to the generosity of Bob Lewis, the meat was provided as a donation. Johnson and others hand prepared the meat. “That was the first time I had ever prepared a cow, it was interesting and took a long time.” said Johnson. The members of the Spanish Branch prepared the food and the Scouts and Young Women served it up. They also handled clean up and water games not to mention a bake sale. What would dinner be without a sweet treat for dessert? “This was a collective effort of everybody involved and was a great success,” explained Johnson. The success had made this event an official 1st Annual event. The group already looks forward to next year when they can plan the next event. “It was a little hot, we may plan to do it a little earlier next year,” said Johnson. The group extended their appreciation to the community for such a great outpouring of support with this fundraiser. In addition to Bob Lewis’ donation, Dick and Jan Campbell were kind enough to loan all equiptment, their home and tub for the thawing and preparation of the meat. Lin’s Marketplace gave a great discount on the food and Overton McDonald’s provided all the drinks. |
