Mack Lyon Middle School students attended the “No Place For Hate” assembly on Friday, May 23. Students certainly didn’t show any hate for Principal Dave Wilson when he stepped out in front of them. All shouting out “Bulldog”, in reference to his recent decision to take the principal position at Virgin Valley High School.

“Hey, I may wear green but I will still bleed blue and gold,” Wilson assured the students.

Before getting to the assembly, Wilson awarded $50 bills to 26 students that received perfect scores on their CRT’s. In the 8th grade three students had a perfect score in math and two in science. In 7th grade ten students had a perfect math score while one had a perfect reading score. In 6th grade nine students scored perfect in math and one in reading. All students accepted their crisp $50 bills with a smile.

Assistant Principal Hal Mortensen then introduced Probation Officer Christopher Witt who came from Las Vegas to be a guest speaker. Officer Witt is familiar with Moapa Valley as he handles juvenile cases here on a weekly basis.

Officer Witt spoke to students about judging others and treating everyone fairly. He explained that in the courts they don’t see color, only crime and that being color blind means respecting everyone no matter how different they are.

After a short question and answer session Officer Witt said goodbye. “I don’t know any of you and I don’t want to, stay out of trouble,” he said. A video presentation was shown that the Photography Club put together. Chester the Champion was the title and the story was about a boy named Chester that wasn’t too popular at school and got picked on. The video told the tale of poor Chester and his daily torture until one day things turned around and he got his revenge on the bully boys.
