OBITUARY

Maurine Wittwer

Maurine Cottle Wittwer, age 90, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, May 24, 2008 in Logandale, Nevada. She was born December 20, 1917 in Liberty, Idaho to Jesse Lewis and Myrtle Manning Cottle. On July 27, 1938 she married Sylvan Harold Wittwer in the Logan Utah Temple.

Maurine grew up in Fish Haven, Idaho. At the age of 12, her family moved to Logan, Utah. When she was a senior in high school, a handsome young man that was attending Utah State University began a courtship with her that would last more than 70 years. Sylvan and Maurine raised their family in Logan, Utah; Columbia, Missouri and for many years in East Lansing, Michigan. They spent two years in Belize on assignment from the United States Agency for International Development and traveled the world in support of Sylvan’s professional responsibilities. In 1996, they established a home in Logandale, Nevada.

Maurine was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active in numerous church callings to the very end. She was also a PTA President and earned the Silver Beaver award for service in Scouting. She had a Bachelor’s Degree in child development and loved children, and they loved her. She taught tap dancing, ran a home nursery, and provided free child care to many young couples struggling to get through graduate school. She reached out to help youth and adults, and for many years there was someone outside the family living in their home. She exemplified the motto, “Charity Never Faileth”. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, love of teaching, music, and children, and unfailing devotion to her husband and posterity.

Survivors include her husband Sylvan; two sons and two daughters: LaRee (Reed) Farrar of Tustin, CA; Alice (Mack) Sowards of Marietta, GA; Arthur (Mary Sue) of Ellisville, MO; Carl (Noriko) of Salt Lake City, UT; 17 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two brothers and one sister: J. Russell Cottle of Fish Haven, ID; Dorothy (Ludene) Campbell of Providence, UT and Elwood (Phyllis) Cottle of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale 6th Ward Hinckley Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 28, 2008 from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Hinckley Chapel and again from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow the services at 5 p.m. (Utah Time) at the Hurricane City Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary, 702 398-3600.
