Michael George Vonderschmitt, often called “Gringo”, was born October 24, 1941 in Omaha Nebraska – Died June 6, 2008 in Torrance California.
Mike had four children, Daughter Kathy Opferman (husband John), who have four children: Anthony, John, James and Katie of California. Daughter Joyce Ann Shifflett (husband Bruce) who have two children: Adreana and Abby. One Son, James Vonderschmitt (wife Joanne) who have three children: James, Evan and Kristin of Indiana. Mike was pre-deceased by his oldest Son, Michael Robert. He has three Sisters, Joy Smith of Lawndale, CA, Barbara Griffen of Burlson, TX and Ellen Vonderschmitt of Lawndale, CA. He is survived by nine nieces and nephews.
Mike loved his friends as much as he loved his family and we will all miss his quick smile and humor. He was very proud to have served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in December of 1964. He loved the nickel keno machines and fishing on Lake Mead. A service will be held in the near future at Lake Mead.
His last wish was to be at peace and without pain. Thanks to the hospital care team, he achieved his wish.
