Clark County Parks and Recreation in cooperation with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension 4-H office held a rocket workshop for kids ages 8-12 from June 23 to June 25. The workshops were held at the Overton and Logandale Rec sites. New 4-H coordinator Lori Leas spent three days running back and forth between locations teaching kids about different types of model rockets.
On Monday the kids made straw rockets and learned the basics of rocketry. On Tuesday paper rockets were made. Wednesday they saved the best for last and built water bottle rockets. Air pressure was used to launch all rockets.
Rec leaders at each facility assisted Leas with the children making sure that each one had help in building his/her rockets each day. After the rockets were built the kids got to test their flight on the launch pad.
“There were some well made rockets,” said Leas. She pointed out that some of the paper rockets even made it higher than the trees and buildings. |
