Singing to the tune of Hotel California Moapa Valley administrators sang their own version titled Hotel Moapa to teachers and staff members at the annual back to school breakfast Wednesday, August 20.

Administrators gave teachers a good laugh with a chorus: Welcome to the schools of Moapa Valley. Such a learning place. Such a learning place. Plenty of room at the schools of Moapa Valley. Any time of year, you can find us here.

Moapa Valley Administrators put on a show as they sang their very own rendition of “Hotel Moapa” (Hotel California) at the back to school breakfast. Pictured back l to r: Tracy Cardinal, Hal Mortensen, Ken Paul, Shawna Jessen, Jaydel Wilson and Rod Adams. In front are Pledger Solomon and Grant Hanevold.
Administrators not only sang to their staff, they sang in character. Bowler Elementary Principal appeared as Loapa Moapa, the Aunt of Hannah Montana; Bowler Assistant Principal Pledger Solomon played his guitar as Mod Stewart, Rod Stewart’s lesser known twin brother; while Perkins Principal Ken Paul was the smooth Bob Chillin’.
Grant Bowler Elementary School new teachers: Kim Bender, Special Education; Star Hill, 4th Grade; Jessie Bush, 3rd Grade; Bryce Hardy, Librarian; Pam Bundy, Physical Education; and Travis Griffiths, Self Contained. Mack Lyon Principal Rod Adams showed his spiritual side as Dr. Phil Marley as he wished everybody a “groovy new school year”; and Mack Lyon Assistant Principal Jaydel Wilson joined this motley crew with his eyes wide open as Lonnie Smash.

Representing MVHS, Principal Grant Hanevold strummed his guitar as Pom Tetty while Dean of Students Tracy Cardinal traveled back to the ’80’s as Mindy Popper, back up singer of Cyndi Lauper and Assistant Principal Hal Mortensen took the stage with a “Thank you, thank you very much” as Helvis Mesley.

This performance was seen after teachers and administrators enjoyed a home cooked breakfast courtesy of the Moapa Valley Rotary Club. Rotarians began arriving around 6:00 a.m. in order to prepare enough food for the expected 200 attendees.
Mack Lyon Middle School new teachers: LeAnn Cook, Resource and Justine Crawford, Band. Not Pictured: Juanie Prisbrey, 7th Grade. The breakfast served as an introduction of new teachers for all four local schools. As administrators introduced their new teachers for the upcoming year the ongoing joke seemed to be how many teachers were stolen away from Jessen at Bowler Elementary. When it was Jessen’s turn to introduce her new teachers she commented with a good spirited laugh “After recovering from all of those thefts, there is no more sharing the love!”
