All Box Numbers To Change At Logandale Post Office

Big changes are in store next month for many of the postal customers in the Moapa Valley. The P.O. boxes at the Logandale Post Office facility will all be getting new numbers. This change will take place in order to clear up possible confusion in the delivery of local mail, according US Postal Service (USPS) officials.

Originally, Logandale and Overton were separate townships. At that time, the two Post Office locations established the box numbers that were the same in both townships. Because they were separate townships at that time, this was okay. But in 1981 the two townships were combined and officially became known as Moapa Valley. USPS officials are now concerned that a single township with duplicated box numbers will cause confusion in mail delivery service.

“Just think how problematic it would be if your mail went to your same box number, but in another city,” explained Logandale Postmaster De Smith. “Reason states that two offices in the same town cannot have the same numbers.”

To avoid confusion among the Logandale postal customers, the new numbers will follow a system similar to the old. The new numbers will take the previous number and add 210000 to it. For example, if the current box number is 425, the new box number will be 210425.

“Customers who currently take advantage of the zip + 4 system won’t really see much change,” said Smith. The Zip+4 system sets up a shorthand address with the postal zip code followed by the last four digits of the box number. For example, the current box number 425 (having the new number 210425) at Logandale will still be written 89021-0425.

According to Smith, the staff at Logandale Post Office is preparing to facilitate this change as smoothly as possible. “This may seem like a huge inconvenience to our customers right now,” Smith said. “But when completed, it will make processing and delivering your mail faster and easier, with fewer pieces returned as undeliverable.”

The USPS will be holding a Town Meeting to further explain these changes to the public. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building at the Logandale Fairgrounds. USPS representatives will be on hand to inform the public and answer questions relating to this change. Only those residents with P.O. Boxes at the Logandale Post Office need to attend, as they will be the only ones affected.
