Parents Are Your Children Safe? | ||
To the Editor: We all love our children very much, and would do anything to keep them safe. But believe it or not, your child may be in danger due to the way you put them in their car seats. I went to get advise and learning lessons from Penny Blair at the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and she taught me things I didn’t know about car seats. It’s a lot more than most of us think or are aware of. Like why your child faces rear at birth to one year or 20 pounds and why having too loose of a strap can harm them, and what can happen if the car seat is not stuff and unshakable. She told me that eight out of ten car seats are not installed properly, I heard the story of a mother who was in an accident, her baby’s straps were not tight enough and the child flew out and through the window. Lets face it none of us wants to be in an accident and we believe we are good drivers but there is always someone out there who could care less about your safety or your child’s safety and God forbid they should hit you. Are you ready if it happens? You owe it to yourself to see if you are doing all you can for your child. I never really thought about it, as long as my child was in a car seat I thought they were fine, but I found out they were not safe at all. My child’s straps were too loose, and the car seat wasn’t real tight the way it should be, also, due to the fact a lot of us are in a BIG hurry we race our children into the car in a hurry and we are off putting our children in danger. I am very guilty of this. I am going to be very careful from now on. If you would like to learn more call Penny Blair at 397-2604, she will be happy to help you. Kerri Gomez |
