The Old Overton Gym held its Old Fashioned Good Time carnival on Saturday, November 1. Over 100 Moapa Valley residents including children, parents and grandparents attended the event which kicked off the fundraising season for the community facility.

The event provided fun for all ages. Adults could bid on a beautifully made Old Overton Gym 70th anniversary birthday cake. The winner of the silent auction took the

cake home. Also there was a huge bake sale with all manner of cookies, cakes, breads and other treats to try out.

Cheesy Photos had a booth where families could dress up and pose for photos in front of festive backdrops.

The Moapa Valley Rotary Club provided hamburgers and hotdogs and families could eat dinner at the event for a small donation to the Old Gym.

Carnival booths were set up for children. Kids could buy carnival tickets and then participate in games like the ring toss, fishing for prizes, coin toss, basketball throw, bean bag toss and other activities.

The pocket lady, played again by Logandale resident, Ramona Crane, was a big hit. Throughout the night, children congregated around her to pick her hundreds of skirt pockets. In her pockets children found candy, toys and other prizes. The kids went back again and again to see what they could pull from the many pockets…all for the price of a ticket.

The event was held to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the old building. The Old Overton Gym board wanted to begin its fundraising season with an event that would recall a simpler time; a time when the community gathered for inexpensive family activities. "We wanted it to be a trip down memory lane for a lot of people who have been here for awhile, and an old fashioned good time for those who haven't," said Chris Green who serves on the Old Gym Board.

The Old Overton Gym has begun its annual membership drive. Individuals can become Century Club Members of the Old Gym by contributing an annual $100 donation. Donations may be sent to the Old Overton Gym at PO BOX 313, Overton, NV 89040. For information about membership call 397-2002.
