Free Pruning Workshop | |
Moapa Valley Progress Published January 28, 2009 Now is the time to prune most trees and shrubs. For home gardeners who are afraid they will make a mistake and ruin their plants, a free workshop is being offered by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. The pruning demonstration will be on Saturday, February 7, at University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 1897 N. Moapa Valley Blvd., Logandale, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. Another workshop will be held on the same day at 1:00 pm in Mesquite. Participants will learn where and how to make proper cuts, how to use tools to best advantage, and get tips on plant care. Norm Schilling of Schilling Horticulture Group will demonstrate how to prune trees and shrubs. Schilling was Supervisor at the SNWA Desert Demonstration Gardens for many years and also was in charge of the Arboretum at UNLV. A popular speaker, Schilling is a licensed Arborist and teaches classes at the Gardens at Las Vegas Springs Preserve. Printed materials giving specific pruning directions for many plants will be available. Participants are invited to bring their pruning tools if they would like personal, hands-on instruction. This event is sponsored by University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and Moapa Valley Gardeners Association. For more information, call the Cooperative Extension office at 397-2604. |
