Where Was President Bush?
To the Editor:
In the 7 January 2009 issue of Moapa Valley Progress, Dr Larry R. Moses asked the question,“Where did President Bush go in 2008?”

I am the first to say I do not agree with every thing President Bush has done during his two terms as President. But in his defense, I must say that Dr. Moses has not kept himself very informed about the activities of President Bush in the last year. I have found that the main stream news media, news papers and television, went out of their way to make President Bush as ill-publicized as possible. Liberal Democrat party supporters have been using their news media to make their favorite political candidates look good and the Republican party look bad. This is nothing new in this country.

Favoritism in the press existed during the office of President George Washington.

So, where has president Bush been last year? There has not been a single successful terrorist attack on United States soil since 09-11-2001. I am a retired law enforcement officer. While I was working, there were thousands of bulletins sent to local and state officers warning to watch for suspicious people at terrorist-likely targets. During the Presidential Inauguration of 2005, the Nevada Highway Patrol and the Las Vegas Metro Police were busy looking for truck bombs believed to be in the area. All this information was passed down from the President’s office to law enforcement through out the United States, but not a word was mentioned by the main stream news media.

There has been a move to control drug traffic in the country. Las Vegas Metro Police and Nevada Highway Patrol have been working very hard every day to catch drug traffickers with the help of information from the Federal Drug Enforcement Agency. Not more than a word or two from the main stream news media.

There has been economic problems and mortgage crisis. I seriously doubt President Bush was spending his time any place, but in the Oval Office trying to correct these concerns.

I also have read in the news of the war between Israel and the Hamas in Gaza. The press has been over-abundant with news of the suffering in Gaza, little was said of the suffering in Israel. Very little mention has been made of efforts from the Oval Office. Its not that there hasn’t been any effort. Secretary of State Rice has made many trips to mediate a cease fire. The news media has downplayed President Bush in all favorable efforts.

I would direct Dr. Moses question to the main stream news media, “Where was the news media during the year 2008?” From my view, they have been writing about their political favorites and casting a dim light on the man in Office.

I suggest Dr. Moses obtain more information from talk radio and internet news sources. Many people have gone to these sources and have a more objective view as a result.

Two Birds With One Letter
To the Editor:
In response to two of the problems that have arisen lately, I will attempt to kill two birds with one letter.

Number one: I apprecated the No One Asked Me But… column from January 21 by Dr. Larry Moses. I am also happy with Bruce Baxter’s letter entitled Something to Ponder published on January 28. I am sorry that more people do not realize what is happening, but for the record I think that Tom Collins is the best commissioner that has been on the County Commission since Jay Bingham. That includes all of them.

Number two: The letter from William Anderson entitled Moapa TAB Not Aware Of What They Are Getting Into; Jan. 28 of the Moapa Band of Paiutes. We do not invite people to attend our meetings. We have OPEN meetings unlike the Moapa Band of Paiutes; so I can imagine you would think you need an invitation. I personally have told several members that someone should attend our meetings; and for a while, when Darren Daboda was Chairman, we di have someone there a lot of meetings. Our meetings are posted at four places as well as on the internet so please feel free to be aware of what is happening and to attend our meetings.
