The nearly 100 members of the Team Moapa Valley made their way to Town Square in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 31 to participate in the Kendall Tenney’s 8th Annual Run for a Wish. This event raises funds for the Make-a-Wish Foundation which is near and dear to the hearts of several local families.

For weeks, Team Captain Natalie Jacobsmeyer has been working hard to raise funds and gather team members for Team Moapa Valley.

Members of Team Moapa Valley participate in the 1 mile fun walk route during the Kendall Tenney’s 8th Annual Run for a Wish event held at Town Square in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 31.
Jacobsmeyer’s original goal was to recruit a team consisting of 50 people from the Moapa Valley. She outdid her expectations, however, with a team of 91 individuals. With a total of over $2100 Team Moapa Valley raised enough to fund 1/3 of a Wish.

Team members ran or walked a 5K course which is just over three miles. There was also a one mile fun walk in which team members participated. For the most part all team members were sporting blue and gold to show their Moapa Valley pride.

Team Moapa Valley consisting of 91 members gathered at Town Square in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 31 to “Run For A Wish”. Some of the team’s youngsters performed well in the run. In the 11-14 year old category Austin Leavitt placed 13th with a time of 26:48. There is a future track star in the making. Speaking of track stars, Josh Thompson finished fifth out of 781 timed entries in the 15-19 age group with a time of 19:28. Bowen Call came in fourteenth with a time of 21:42.

As for the girls in the 15-19 age group, Ashley Noto took sixth with a time of 29:41 and Mishon Marshall just a step behind in seventh with a time of 29:42.

Jacobsmeyer couldn’t have been more proud of her team. “The team did a great job!” she said. “What an enjoyable day, and the weather was perfect.”

Jacobsmeyer also expressed her appreciation to the families with small children that came to participate, “I hope the kids had a good time being part of the effort,” she said.

Jacobsmeyer also expressed her thanks to Marianne Ekenstam for making and donating buttons for each team member to wear during the run. The buttons were blue and gold and said Team Moapa Valley.

The 9th Annual will be the same time next year and Captain Jacobsmeyer is already talking about getting the team back together. Until next year…
