Grant Bowler Elementary 4th grader Taya Stevens heard that her school was going to have to make budget cuts and jumped to action. Taya went home and told her parents and her eight siblings that she wanted to collect coins to help her school.

“Everybody just gave me what they could find and my mom and dad thought it was a good idea,” said Taya. In a few days time, Taya had a jar full.

She then approached Bowler Principal Shawna Jessen to make her donation. “I told Mrs. Jessen that I wanted to help and she was surprised,” said Taya.

Mrs. Jessen was impressed with this young student. “I was moved at her kindness and generosity,” stated Jessen, “She is just one example of the goodness in our students here at Grant Bowler Elementary”.

Taya Stevens, 4th grader at Bowler Elementary collected coins when she heard the school was going to have to make budget cuts.
Taya’s teacher Mrs. Stephanie Newman didn’t have any idea that her student was planning on making the donation. The class worked together counting the coins.

Taya explained that she was worried that her school was going to run out of things they needed. With the money she has donated there are plans to help with the purchase of Accelerated Reader tests in the school library.

Taya has lived in Moapa Valley all of her life and is proud to be a Bowler Buccaneer.
