Many new books have been purchased by the elementary school library, but they don’t come with the AR tests. Thanks to the school’s librarian, Bryce Hardy, many students have gotten excited about the new books and have read them quickly. But since the school does not have the funding to buy the tests separately, students cannot get the AR points that are coming to them. Parents of students have had to send in money to the school so that the tests could be acquired and the student can take the desired test and receive the points.
A group of parents calling themselves the Friends of Bowler Elementary Library put on this book fair to try and fix this problem. Much of the group’s efforts were under the direction of Bowler parent, Suzie Causey. “Suzie, on her own, came up with the idea to have the book sale to raise money for the AR tests,” said school librarian Bryce Hardy. “She did a great job organizing and planning it. I really appreciate all the hard work, effort, and support she put into it.” Approximately 1,600 books were donated to the Book Fair by Moapa Valley residents. Most of the books were sold at the Book Fair. During the course of the morning the inventory of books started to decline as sales continued. “Bryce (Hardy) actually ran home and gathered up some more books to put out on the tables,” Causey said. The book fair earned the school around $700. This will buy about 230 new AR tests, Causey said. “I really appreciate everyone coming out and supporting this cause. The whole community came out to help,” Causey said. Causey and the other Friends of the Bowler Library would like to see this successful fundraiser become an annual occurrence. “We’d like to make this into a regular community event,” Causey said. “Shawna Jesson (Bowler Principal) has given the ok for us to do this every year.” |
