Grand Opening Ceremony Held At Senior Center

The Moapa Valley Senior Center celebrated their much anticipated “grand opening”ceremonies with a visit from Commissioner Steve Sisolak on Tuesday, April 14. The new Senior Center opened its doors a few weeks ago welcoming seniors for their first lunch in the new building and they have been enjoying it ever since. Whether they are playing pool, quilting or just relaxing in the Library, the seniors as loving their new facility.

Upon entering the building visitors are

welcomed with a wide open floor plan and tall ceilings. With beautiful fixtures and furniture throughout the facility provides plenty of comfort for the seniors. Senior Center Director Ruth Caldwell was appreciative to the County for allowing her input on the furnishings, giving the center a personal touch.

Caldwell spoke to seniors and guests during the ceremony on Tuesday. She thanked them for their never ending support. “These are the faces I have grown to love,”she said.

Caldwell recognized the efforts of past Commissioner Bruce Woodbury as well as Commissioners Steve Sisolak and Tom Collins in bringing this project to fruition. “It’s been a long haul and without (the Commissioners’) support we wouldn’t be here today,”said Caldwell.

Steve Corey with Clark County Parks and Recreation (CCPR) spoke for a moment regarding the partnership that made this facility possible. Corey thanked the those involved including Hardy Construction, Real Property Management, C&B Nevada, the Commissioners as well as CCPR staff. “This is the nicest senior center that I have ever seen, it is wonderful to give something back to the seniors who have done so much for all of us over the years”stated Corey.

Corey also presented Caldwell with three books to be placed in the library which cover Clark County history.

Commissioner Sisolak took a moment to reflect on the history of Clark County recognizing CCPR for celebrating their 50th anniversary this year. A display was set up in the main room with a look back at the past 100 years in Clark County. Sisolak read a short history of Moapa Valley before presenting Caldwell with a Proclamation on behalf of the Clark County Board of Commissioners. “Hopefully you can find somewhere to hang this in your new facility,”he said.

The Commissioner had taken a tour of the facility prior to the presentation and was definitely impressed. “This is a beautiful facility, please enjoy it,”he said.

Following the presentation seniors and guests enjoyed refreshments provided by Hardy Construction as they visited with each other and Commissioner Sisolak.
