Thankful For Good Friends And Neighbors
To the Editor:
I would like to thank all of you who showed your support to help keep our gymnastics program going. Many of you signed petitions (over 500), wrote letters, and emailed the Commissioners to show your support. It is fantastic to live in this wonderful community.

A special thanks to our immediate neighbors, who all support our program, and my booster club officers and parents, who organized and put together this mass show of support in only a couple of days. We also really appreciate all of you who took time out of your day, (and gas money) to drive into Vegas to attend the County Commission meeting. The Commissioners voted to have us come back in August. In the meantime, we will see if we can figure something out so we will be able to keep our gym doors open.

If you have any suggestions or questions, please feel free to give us a call. Thank you again, and we look forward to your continued support.

Taxes And The New Senior Center
To the Editor:
In response to the letter from Mr. and Mrs. Christensen of Logandale (Please Be Supportive Of The New Senior Center: April 22), I would like to thank them for paying their taxes for 40-60 years and building schools with kitchens…but I won’t. However, I would like to point out that if they have dutifully payed their taxes for 40-60 years, their advanced age indicates that they probably had children of their own or extended family members (i.e. nieces and nephews), that benefited from their tax dollars. The school burden they pointed out has already been utilized.

Taxes are not a savings account. You don’t get to pick and choose when and how your tax dollars will be spent. Just as those of us with children in the schools currently and paying taxes also didn’t get the choice whether our tax dollars would go to a new senior center. The seniors of this valley do get preferential treatment from our illustrious commissioners. The children of this valley have very few constructive extracurricular activities. The reason that so many families are upset with the new center is because, as a whole, the seniors of this community chose not to share the center. Instead of building a brand new beautiful center the entire community, young and old alike, could enjoy and benefit from, this age group chose to be selfish.

In closing, I would like to remind the seniors that the swimming pools have been in use for over 30 years. They also benefited from a free education. I am already paying for a public library with my tax dollars; the center doesn’t need it’s own private library. And another thing, everyone dies. That is THE only thing in life we are ALL entitled to. That doesn’t make senior citizens special, just human.
