The students of Ute V. Perkins Elementary School put on quite a show with their annual Spring Dance Festival which was held on Thursday, May 7. The evening was full of dancing along with a little live auction fun courtesy of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

The evening kicked off with a welcome from Principal Ken Paul who explained that attendees were in for a treat this year with the addition of the Patriot Rockers Dance Team and the Ballroom Dance Troupe. Both groups are newly formed groups at Perkins that practice before school.

Perkins Early Childhood children dressed in thier Patriotic Red, White & Blue danced to “Ride, Ride, Ride That Pony” during the Ute V. Perkins Spring Dance Festival held on Thursday, May 7.
The Patriot Rocker girls were dressed in matching pink shirts. The group started off the evening with two dances, the 30 girls finished off their performance with a spirited cheer. The adorable Early Childhood was then led out to perform dressed in red, white and blue as they danced to “Ride, Ride, Ride That Pony”.

The kindergartners performed a slow “Macarena” to a song that reinforced their numbers and months. First graders then skipped onto the scene in their matching white shirts to perform a couples dance to “La Bastringue”.

“Now it is time for an elegant performance,” stated Master of Ceremonies, Mike Jack, as he introduced the Ballroom Dance Troupe to the crowd. This group of students were beautifully dressed, girls in gowns and boys in shirts and ties as they emerged as couples, hand in hand. They performed an “elegant” dance to “Moon River”.

Perkins first graders danced to “La Bastringue” during the Ute V. Perkins Spring Dance Festival held on Thursday, May 7. The second graders got into the action next as Mr. Dorsey’s class performed to “Nine Pound Hammer” followed by Mrs. Pulsipher’s class who performed to “Surfin’ USA”.

“It’s time to get groovy” stated Jack as he introduced third graders who were up next dressed in their best ’70’s wear with big wigs and platform shoes to perform the disco dance to “Stayin Alive”. A few third graders really got into the dance and couldn’t stop strutting even after the dance was over.

Finishing off the dances were the fifth graders and the traditional braiding of the Maypole.

Students first wrapped and unwrapped the Maypole which was decorated in patriotic red, white and blue ribbons. Then they invited parents to join them for another turn at the fun.

A fun and lively auction was also held in between dances. Four baskets were auctioned off by Jack with the help of PTA President Shari Lyman who jumped into action to encourage the bidding. In the end the PTA walked away with $360 for just those four baskets.

Before the night concluded Paul recognized teacher Carri Leete who coordinated the Spring Dance Festival, “Carri takes the reigns and goes for it, she did an outstanding job tonight,” stated Paul. Also recognized was Leslie May for her volunteer efforts with the Patriot Rockers. Music Teacher Vince Dasal recognized May stating, “Leslie has been an inspiration, she puts in a lot of time here.” May teaches and choreographs for the group.
