James Ellerton

OBITUARY:

James Ellerton
On June 1, 2009, a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather and soldier transitioned to his Eternal Home. James Erwin Ellerton passed away in his home in his beloved Mammoth, Montana.

Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois (Cook County), 62 years ago on January 29, 1947. He lived in Custer, South Dakota, in his early years. The family moved to Bozeman, Montana, where Jim completed his high school education. Later his family moved to Ennis, Montana.

Jim graduated from MSU. He served his Country with pride as a Corpsman in the United States Navy. He saw active duty in Viet Nam with the Marines and was reactivated during Desert Storm serving in the Navy Hospital in San Diego, California. He retired as a Chief Corpsman following 27 years of active and reserve duty.

Jim worked as an accountant for The Montana Power Company in Butte, Montana, for over 20 years. He enjoyed his ranch in Whitehall, Montana, and, following retirement, found new homes in Overton, Nevada, and Mammoth (Cardwell), Montana. He loved working with his hands and was an accomplished carpenter. Jim and his wife, Catherine (Wegener), spent many years involved with 4-H Clubs in Montana; with the Wrangler’s Horse Club in Whitehall, Montana, and as Host Parents for five Exchange Students from Austria, Croatia, Germany and Sweden. He enjoyed looking for and collecting antiques (wife not included). True to his “Hippie” Youth, Jim was known to frequent various Rock Concerts throughout the country.

He dearly loved his only child, Kevin Carl Ellerton and his family, Brandi (Barone), Ashtyn Laine and Kyler Thomas of Bozeman, Montana. He found great delight in being part of their lives.

His father and step-mother, Russel and Phyllis (Lilyard) Ellerton, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Wegener); his mother, MaryAnn (Meyers) Henson of Chicago, Illinois, and siblings: Jolene Ellerton of Missoula, Montana; Cathy (Stan) Gardner of Wayne, Nebraska; Randy (Laura) Ellerton of Belgrade, Montana; Clinton Ellerton (Vickie Morrow) of Swannanoa, North Carolina; Judy Lanners of Phoenix, Arizona; Chuck (Connie) Henson of Gilbert, Arizona: Lenda (David) Kaplan of San Diego, California; and Joan (Kevin) Sutton of Chicago, Illinois. He was very fond of his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces and always enjoyed the time spent with them as well the time spent with the many friends he met along his journey.

Following cremation, a private Memorial Service was held in Mammoth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Jefferson Valley Museum in Whitehall, Montana; the Ennis Library in Ennis, Montana; or the Voluntary Services for Veterans in Need at PO Box 81, Fort Harrison, Montana 59636.
