To the Editor:

On June 19th, at the Overton High School I was injured while riding a 3-wheeled scooter. As fate would have it the back tire decided to roll off the sidewalk and I decided to follow it right to the ground.

Three different vehicles pulled over to help me that day. These people patiently assisted me up off the ground, supported my ankle and got me into the back seat of my truck so I could be taken to the hospital. I do not know the names of these people who stopped to help me, but I wanted to say thanks to them.

I am thankful that we have people in this valley who do things, not for praise or admiration, but because they care about their fellow human beings. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for all their help.

I may never know who they were, but you can rest assured that God put them there at that exact time for a reason and he saw what they did.

I also wish to thank all the employees of Mesa View Hospital, in Mesquite. Their care, before and after my surgery, was excellent. Thank you so very much for being there for me and keeping that call button close!

To my family, friends, and neighbors who have so laboriously brought in meals, flowers, cards, made phone calls, and the many prayers, I say thank you and God bless you. I hope if you ever need me I can be there for you.

Thank You Clark County – Well Done!
To the Editor:

If you have driven into the commercial district of the Valley over the last couple of weeks, you should have noticed the “Welcome to Overton” sign installed in the Cooper triangle, adjacent to Maverik. Some time ago, a few of us applied for a community grant to help improve the entry into Overton. The community was asked to submit designs for a sign that would be placed at the entry of the commercial district.

The MVTAB reviewed the designs submitted and with a voice vote from the public attending the Town Board meeting, selected a sign to be installed.

We went to work and found a company that would create the sign from a sketch, purchased the sign, and had it shipped to Overton. As we planned to install the sign we ran into challenges because the location for the sign is located in street Right-of-Way and there are specific rules for a sign or anything else installed in street Right-of-Way.

A variety of setbacks delayed the installation. We purchased and installed the gravel covering the triangle area and then ran into sign installation and A.D.A. (American Disabilities Act) conformance issues (a safe walkway). Clark County Public Works Director, Denis Cederburg and Cameron Harper saved the day by allowing Public Works staff to determine what was necessary to comply with the law and complete the actual installation.

An added benefit to our community was the sidewalk and street improvements Public Works installed along the highway. These improvements have created a safe and pleasant appearance at the entry of our community.

The employees of Clark County Public Works showed that they have a genuine interest in our valley and did a great job completing this project. I appreciate them working with the community and proving that government and private citizens can work together and make good things happen. I need to say thanks to Audree Lytle who designed the sign and teenagers from the L.D.S. Overton Fourth Ward for installing all the gravel. Overall, Thank you Clark County… Well done!
