Pirate Football Gearing Up

As summer continues to wind down, Moapa Valley Football is preparing for the opener against Fernley by announcing the dates for the start of Pirate Training Camp.

The Pirates are preparing for their upcoming season, one that will feature Moapa Valley’s first chance at a Back-to-Back-to-Back bid since 1966-1968, when the Pirates dominated the 1A for three consecutive years..

“We are excited for what this year has to offer,” commented Coach Brent Lewis, the Nevada 3A Coach of the Year for football in both 2007 and 2008..

The Pirates will open camp at 10:00 p.m. on August 12. As has become customary over the past few years, the camp will not only serve as a training session but also as a lock-in for players. The camp will go on until the afternoon of Saturday, August 15.

“Everybody needs to bring their mattresses, TV’s, XBOX’s, and all of the other necessities,” said Coach Brent Lewis..

All of the athletes that plan on attending will also need to have their Sports Packets turned in. Because these practices are occurring within the official contact practice timeline, the NIAA requires all players to have packets to compete..

“Anybody who doesn’t have their packet can’t practice,” said Coach Lewis..

Physical exams will be available for athletes at MVHS on August 6 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Physicals will cost $25. Proceeds will go to the athletic program at MVHS. All athletes are eligible to attend this service.

All football players also need to bring a $50 fee, which will cover the Spirit Packet. The items in this package include shirts, hats, and shorts that represent Moapa Valley Football. Players also need to bring a $5 Impact Fee check. All checks need to be made out to MVHS Football. Anyone with questions can call Coach Lewis at 398-7064.
