Mother/Son Duo Exhibits Art At Lost City Museum

The mother and son duo of Maria Wurtz and Michael Alan Cameneti will exhibit their art work at the Lost City Museum in Overton during the month of September.

Maria Wurtz, a resident of Logandale, was born in Chicago, Illinois and attended the Chicago Art Institute. She put her career on hold, married, had children and then once again began her love, the arts.

She eventually moved to California where she began attending night classes in art at Pierce College.

Since moving to the Moapa Valley, she has had shows at numerous galleries.

Wurtz enjoys working in many different media, including oils, acrylics, pastels and handmade paper. Impressionistic portrayals of Native American subjects are her specialty.

Born in El Monte, California, Michael Alan Cameneti excelled in creative arts during his early schooling. Following a stint with the U.S. Marine Corps he “cruised” through a variety of jobs before he graduated from California State University at Northridge with a degree in Advertising Graphics and Photography and began teaching industrial design at that same institution. He then taught in the Interior and Environmental Design department at UCLA where he headed the drawing department for four years. During this time he also worked for the entertainment industry where he worked on campaigns for numerous movies.

In the 1990’s he began the transition into digital design and is currently doing graphics, illustration and fine art while teaching at Santa Monica College in the Entertainment Technologies and Architectural Design Departments.

“My art doesn’t contain any secret messages, hidden imagery, or express any kind of political view,” said Cameneti. “I just enjoy creating it.”

The Lost City Museum is open Thursday through Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Regular admission charge is $4.00 for adults age 18 and over, $3.00 for 65 and over. Children and members enter free. For more information, call the museum at (702)397-2193.
