OBITUARY:

Doug Jones

William Douglas Jones, age 71, died Sunday, September 20, 2009 at his home in Overton, Nevada. He was born August 25, 1938 in Las Vegas, Nevada to William Albert and Phyllis Johnson Jones. On June 28, 1957 he married Joyce Maxwell in Overton, Nevada.

Doug lived his whole life in Overton, Nevada. As a young man, he went to one year of technical school, before coming back to Overton. He started the Hardly Able Construction Company with Cal Payne, doing construction work in the valley. Later he went to work at the Nevada Test Site as a fire fighter. When he retired 33 years later, he was the Assistant Fire Chief. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter and in the Lion’s Club. He had a great sense of humor. He loved hunting, fishing and being in the outdoors.


Survivors include his sweetheart of 52 years, Joyce of Overton; two sons and one daugther, Richard (Shelley) of Overton, NV; Cheryl (Mike) Burrows of Longmont, CO; Larry of Logandale, NV; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one brother, Glen (Josette) of Sparks, NV and one sister, Cathy (Dan) Heiner of Vernal, UT.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 26, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Overton LDS 2nd Ward Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will follow in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery in Overton under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.
