said that Morris was a huge hit among the local seniors. “She tailored the performance to focus right on this audience,” Trombley said. “And the seniors just loved her.”
In the evening, Morris captivated the audience with her pleasing alto voice and personality. “You Belong To Me” seemed to be the theme as she beguiled the listeners and reeled them in. From the beginning it was an audience participation show as she wandered through the auditorium, sitting, talking and dancing with members of that audience reminding them to “let their hair down and we’ll see what you really look like.” You know that “She’s Got You” when you applaud for the sparkly costumes she changed into throughout the evening. The three piece backup band not only complimented Joni’s musical renditions, but they also played and sang their way through several entertaining numbers: Hey Good Lookin,’ and “Kansas City.” She proved her comedic abilities in an amusing rendition of “Among My Souvenirs.” During a brief intermission, cowboy poet, Delmar Leatham, rounded out the evening’s program with several entertaining poems. He discussed the fact that “Ma and Pa Have Been Raisin’ Chickens;” shared his belief in “Reincarnation,” and ended with an amusing shopping spree for “The Bra.” Ms. Morris brought the audience to tears with a loving song inspired by her daughter titled “Hold Me Time.” But turned right around and brought the mood back up with “Ring of Fire.” As she bid the audience “Sweet Dreams,” Joni reminded all that she was “Crazy” for us. This delightful evening was provided by The Moapa Valley Performing Arts Council as part of their 2009 -2010 season. |
