Winding slowly through the Valley of Fire I felt the presence of the many creatures that abide there – watching – waiting. A giant lizard slithered by as I climbed the hill and passed the elephant standing tall and majestically. Soon I came to the fish and the monkey beckoning me on to the seven sisters who welcomed me to stay for a bit. But I declined as my destiny, the Atlatl Rock, was just ahead.
As I left the land of imagination I came to a land of creatures of the night. A jolly pirate seemed to be in charge. His mortal name was Don Bolton, an Interpretive Park Ranger with the Nevada State Parks, before he was transformed on that fateful day, October 31, Halloween. Bolton said, with an evil smile, that these festivities lure in 150 to 200 folks annually to the magical area of the Valley of Fire State Park. |
