Mesa View Regional Hospital (MVRH) employees and staff were proud to be the recipients of the 2009 HealthInsight Quality Award which was presented during a celebration on Wednesday, October 28. MVRH received this award after their publicly reported quality of care measures reached the 91st percentile beating out all hospitals in Nevada and Southern Utah. Mesa View also ranked in the top 10% nationwide out of 1,500 hospitals.

Deborah Huber, Vice President of Nevada Programs with HealthInsight attended the celebration in order to present the award.

The HealthInsight Quality Award acknowledges hospitals that achieve excellence in performance on the care related to over a dozen publicly reported quality measures. The clinical topics measured for the awards have been designated as national healthcare priorities by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Huber explained that, as a Critical Access Hospital, Mesa View Regional Hospital is not required to have their results displayed publicly. But the hospital elected to do so anyway. “This is just an example of how Mesa View Regional Hospital stands out above the rest,” stated Huber.

HealthInsight had set the bar at 75% and decided to present any hospital that reached that goal with a quality award. Huber explained that only two facilities reached that 75% mark for 2009. St. Rose De Lima Hospital in Las Vegas and Mesa View Regional Hospital in Mesquite; “Not only did you reach the goal, you exceeded it at 91% making you #1” Huber explained to employees.

MVRH CEO, Sue Conley accepted the award on behalf of her employees. “Kudos to all of you, you are all just fabulous” she said. Conley expressed her appreciation for her “family” at Mesa View and made it clear that this award belonged to the employees, “you earned it!” she said.

Conley also expressed her appreciation for the continued support shown by her employees as well as physicians and community members, many of whom came to show their support.

In attendance were Mesquite Mayor, Susan Holecheck along with City representatives; residents responsible for bringing Mesa View Regional Hospital to Mesquite including Robert Shively, Layne Moody and Chuck Gesme. Also in attendance were members of the Board of Trustees including Alice Crites, Lon Empey, Dan Wright, Theron Jensen, Dr. Alan Jones, and Dr. Paul Havens. Additional physicians in attendance included Dr. Edward Ofori, Dr. Thomas Vater, Dr. Smita Mehta, Dr. Lonnie Empey, Dr. Douglas Zinni, Dr. Anthony Baffoe-Bonnie, Dr. Ashka Bahin-Aein and representing Dr. Scott Parry and Dr. Todd Parry was Jeromy Mendenhall, PA of Coral Desert Orthopedics.

Booths were set up during the celebration including a bake sale to benefit the Employee Benevolence Fund. A few tables with hand-made items for an employee craft sale and the Senior Circle booth. Senior Circle Coordinator Gloria Burkhart was available to provide information to those interested in joining.

Senior Circle will celebrate its first anniversary on November 5 with a Health Fair and dinner at the CasaBlanca Events Tent. Currently 500 members make up the Senior Circle group and there is always room for more. For tickets to the dinner or more information on the event you can contact Gloria at 702-345-4363.
