Student Council Advisor Gary Leonard presented the first certificates of the evening to the executive board for leadership and service: President, Logan Call; Vice President, Makenzie Bush; Secretary, Lynae Barlow; Treasurer, Troy Prisbrey; and Historian, Danielle Udall. National Junior Honor Society advisor, Jared Myer recognized NJHS officers: President, Jeremy Waite, Vice President, Ansley Cox; Secretary, Dakota Burke; and Treasurer, Victoria Karvonen.
Makendie Frei and Troy Prisbrey received the American Legion Award, for having met the criteria of courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship, and service. Next were the President’s Education Awards, to recognize and honor outstanding educational achievements. The Silver Certificates or President’s Awards for Educational Improvement were presented to students who have maintained a 3.5-3.79 grade point average (GPA). Gold Certificates or President’s Awards for Educational Excellence recognized students who maintained a 3.8-4.0 GPA. Adams presented special plaques to the students who maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout all three years of middle school. These students included Lynae Barlow, Logan Call, Cymoni Cooper, Madisyn Griffiths, Maison Johnson, Victoria Karvonen, Jessie Morwood, Whitney Muns, and Eric Winzenried. Students were chosen by eighth grade teachers to receive Awards for Excellence in several categories. These included Reading: Victoria Karvonen; Math: Whitney Muns; Science: Jessie Morwood; Writing: Vada Ortiz; Academics: Chad Jones and Maison Johnson; Citizenship: Isaiah Weatherford and Madisyn Griffiths; Leadership: Logan Call and Cymoni Cooper; Service: Jeremy Waite and Sarah King; Effort: Tyson Mortenson and Jennifer Ramirez. Logan Call and Lynae Barlow were chosen by their peers for the W. Mack Lyon Award, having met five criteria which included demonstrates school spirit; helps others; leads by example both in grades and friendliness; demonstrates good citizenship; tries to make the school and/or community a better place. The last award of the night was the Grant M. Bowler Award, presented by Adams. The award went to Danielle Udall for her involvement in school activities while upholding a high academic standard. Eighth grade recognition certificates then were presented to each student before the broadcasting class closed out the evening with a slideshow featuring baby pictures and some of the school year’s most memorable moments.
