“To leave an impression you need to traumatize people.” The introduction to Pastor Jason Ham’s speech at the MVHS 2010 Baccalaureate Services held on Sunday evening in the LDS Logandale Stake Center was meant to catch the attention of those attending. Ham, the pastor at Calvary Community Church in Overton, used a tennis ball tethered to a pink string as his object lesson. As he shouted out for help he would toss the ball into empty pews.
The point of Ham’s demonstration was to remind the MVHS senior class of 2010 of the many challenges that await them after high school life. He asked the rhetorical question of who these burgeoning adults would turn to in time of need, despair, and guidance.
While students may have guessed that Ham was referring to the family and friends who would always be there for support, he also reminded them of their spiritual leaders who would be there to catch that so called “dropped ball” that no other human could.
Ham explained that at their hours of need that God would always be there for them. He wanted this to be something the graduating class of 2010 remembered. “Even if it’s the only thing you remember” he said, “let it be that.”
To add to the Sunday’s service, the MVHS Encore Choir, led by director Kaelyne Pendleton sang beautiful songs picked for the special occasion.
Senior class president, Kimberly Wyatt was the Mastor of Ceremonies for the night as she welcomed and thanked family, friends, and students for attending.
Light refreshments were provided for those who needed a bit of sugar to keep their sparkling smiles for the many flashing camera bulbs.
