No One Asked Me But…

By Dr. Larry Moses

Published June 30, 2010

No one asked me but…Many Americans believe that dependency on the federal government is a panacea for the ills of America.

Let me quote a man who mistakenly thought relying on the United States government would solve all his problems. Chief Washakie (c.1804-1900) of the Eastern Shoshone Indians of Wyoming stated the following about his experience with the U.S. Government. “The white man’s government promised that if we, the Shoshones, would be content with the little patch allowed us, it would keep us well supplied with everything necessary to comfortable living, and would see that no white man should cross our borders for our game or anything that is ours. But it has not kept its word! The white man kills our game, captures our furs, and sometimes feeds his herds upon our meadows. And your great and mighty government… It does not protect our rights. It leaves us without the promised seed, without tools for cultivating the land, without implements for harvesting our crops, without breeding animals …, without the food…, without the many comforts we cannot produce, without the schools we so much need for our children. I say again, the government does not keep its word.”

One should remember what this Native American learned the hard way. It is dangerous to turn your fate over to the government for it can, and will, arbitrarily change the rules; because they own the game.

While the intent of the Founding Fathers was that central government would be an organization to enhance and protect the rights of the individual, it has grown into an entity unto itself and will function for its self preservation.

Those of you who believe you can make a deal with the federal government for a fair use of Gold Butte should not be shocked when these agreements are arbitrarily abridged after what you considered an equitable settlement.

No one asked me but… I believe it is time for the American people to realize this country is engaged in an economic war with the world. This war is no less dangerous than the military threat presented by Germany and Japan in the 1940’s. This war is every bit as threatening as if bombs were dropping on America cities.

While America cannot presently be defeated with open warfare, it can be brought to its knees by this economic challenge. Let’s attack the debt to China like we did the war against Germany and Japan in WWII. How about a bond drive and use the money raised to pay off our debt to China? We could get movie stars and athletes to promote the importance of protecting America like we did during WWII.

If we can convince the American people that our financial reliance on our enemies is bringing us to the brink of destruction, maybe we could convince them to support a major effort to get out of debt.

No one asked me but…Let’s tell the world we are no longer its piggy-bank.

We should no longer give billions and billions of dollars to countries that have natural disasters. Maybe the president should not have set aside 20 million dollars in tax payer money to transport Hamas Refugees to the United States. They will be living in America at the American taxpayer expense. Thousands of potential Islamic terrorist will be resettled in the United States and you and I are paying their rent!

How do we justify giving millions of dollars to countries when the country is broke? If the American people wish to continue to donate personally, bless them, but the government has no money to give.

No one asked me but… General McChrystal was brought home from Afghanistan. If every enlisted man who made a disparaging remark about the President and his people were brought home, no one would be left in Afghanistan.

McChrystal’s return is a good start. Let’s bring all our troops home. If we were to leave the Middle-East to itself, they will kill each other off. The countries of that region have proven themselves incapable of living at peace with anyone. We are economically destroying America to protect the rights of women and children in a culture that places no value on their own.

The Russians nearly lost their entire country trying to intervene in Afghanistan. They finally realized they were economically destroying the motherland and just went home.

America went to Afghanistan to locate Al Qaeda and found a civil war.

We went to Iraq to destroy Saddam Hussein and to set up a democracy in a country that has no concept of democracy.

It is hard for us to understand countries that are owned by people. The Saudi family owns Saudi Arabia. They are not elected to run it. It is theirs. They own it.

I don’t believe we should ignore attacks from Muslim extremist or any other such radicals. But we have the ability to carry out surgical strikes without becoming involved in long drawn out wars that, even if you win, you lose.

You cannot liberate a people who don’t wish to be liberated or have even a rudimentary idea of what liberation means.

No one asked me but…We need to supply our own fuel, environmentalists be damned.

If it was not for the environmentalist we would not be doing deep water drilling in the first place. We have enough coal, oil and natural gas to be independent and we should get there as soon as possible.

While we harvest our own fossil fuels, we can get serious about the development of alternative fuels as well.

We need to get our trade balance back in order. Using our own fossil fuels will go a long way in balancing trade. If Japan allows the import of only 6,000 American cars a year, we should allow the import of only 6,000 Japanese cars.

I understand things are cheaper when we buy it from a culture that uses child and slave labor. But if we return these industries to America, the additional cost will be exchanged internally. The money will stay home. Why in heaven’s name am I purchasing grapes from Mexico in our local store? Why are we purchasing wheat from China? America has the capability of feeding the entire world and we are importing food. How foolish is that?

Let’s place a higher tariff on all goods from China and use the money to pay off the debt. I am aware that we manufacture little in America today but that could be remedied if we encouraged, rather than discouraged, the redevelopment of industry in America.

It is time to stop the madness and get serious about getting a handle on the economic disaster for which this country is headed.

Thought for the week… Personal liberty is the purpose of government, not to run your personal life, not to run the economy, and not to pretend that we can tell the world how they ought to live.
