Lights at Lake Mead and Summer Reading
Stan Baldwin, longtime lake user, donated $30,000 for lighting on courtesy docks at Overton Beach, Echo Bay, Calville Bay, Lake Mead Marina, Government Wash, Hemenway Harbor, and Temple Bar. He’d reported the need for lighting and was told that they were waiting for a grant. “This was something I realized I could help with”, Baldwin stated.

Muddy River fish gets its own Species Classification
Information from researchers at Arizona State University has concluded that the Virgin River Chub is in itself a full species, not a sub-species of the Roundtail Chub.

The Virgin River Chub exists in small numbers in both the Muddy River and the Virgin River. The US Fish & Wildlife Service, in recognition of the change in the scientific classification of the Virgin River Chub, is proposing to change the way the endangered fish is listed under the Endangered Species Act.

Flood Control Support Dropped and Governor Visits
Clark County Commissioner Bruce Woodbury stated that he’d heard rumors that the Moapa Valley portion of an engineering study under the Army Corps of Engineers had been dropped. Engineer Gus Cedarburg affirmed the rumor, stating “It would have cost $10 million to build flood control in the Moapa Valley and, in as much as the entire valley is only valued at $26 million, they failed to see the reasoning.”

Governor Richard Bryan visited Moapa Valley for the official Logandale Bridge Dedication. MVTAB Chair Grant Bowler, Governor Bryan, Commissioner Woodbury, Highway Board Engineer Bow Bowman, and District V Engineer Gene Weight, along with many other officials, met at Logandale Park for a ceremony and acceptance of the bridge, followed by a dinner at the Overton Community Center, and the TAB Meeting.
