Flex It Moves Operation To Mesquite

By Mike Donahue
Moapa Valley Progress

Flex It, a gymnastics training program originally in Logandale, has moved to Mesquite and will begin offering all levels of gymnastics classes after Labor Day in The Deuce, the former Virgin Valley Elementary School, according to trainer/owner Jennifer Evans.

Evans operated Flex It at her Logandale home gym for several years before increasing expenses and myriad problems forced her to shut down and seek another location. “Mesquite actually wants us and has done everything to make our transition to The Deuce relatively smooth,” Evans said. “The facility has a full size gym which will give me room to potentially conduct more than one class at a time.”

Before shutting her doors in Logandale, Evans was teaching up to 115 Moapa Valley children a week in competitive gymnastics which includes the balance beam, uneven parallel bars and the floor vault. Evans said she sincerely hopes local students and parents won’t find Mesquite too far away to continue participating in her program.

“Parks and Rec in Logandale will run preschool and beginning recreational gymnastics with some of my equipment,” Evans said. “It will also run a recreational cheer program which will be a feeder program to our operation in Mesquite.” She said the competitive team will begin practicing next Tuesday (Sept. 7) and an open house is scheduled next Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. “Everyone is welcome to come up and check out the new gym,” Evans said. “It isn’t in our backyard, but it is a nice facility.”

Throughout August, the Flex It competitive team has been forced to carpool to St. George in order to continue working out. “In Mesquite we will offer all levels of gymnastics classes from Mommy and Me’ up through level 10 including pre-team, team and cheer classes,” Evans said.

“I want to give a special thanks to John Stastny in the local Parks and Rec department,” she said. “Also, to the wonderful people in Mesquite including Rich Bohne, Griseyda Belalcazar and Nicholars Montoya for being so wonderful and working with us to keep our successful program going.”

She said she plans to start this year a recreational cheer team and a gymnastics competitive cheer team.
