A back to school bash was just what students at Mack Lyon Middle School needed in order to get excited about the start of school. The water-themed party, hosted by Student Council, marked the end of summer and the beginning of a new school year.
“We thought an afterschool party would be a good way to welcome everyone back, and also welcome students new to our school,” said Student Body Vice President, Austin Leavitt.
So for one afternoon last week, Mack Lyon students didn’t have to think about new schedules, supply lists, or those tricky locker combinations. Instead, they ate hot dogs and watermelon and hung out at the pool with their friends.
There was a limbo contest, where Andy Beckstrand was able to beat out defending champ, Hayden Nelson, to become the new champion.
In the belly flop competition, Mateo Garcia’s splashy dive was enough to impress the judges and earn him the title.
The great summer tradition, the Slip ‘N Slide, was a popular attraction for those who liked to show off their most daring stunts while sliding down the slippery tarp.
“Everyone had a great time!” said Student Council President, Spencer Baker. “It was a great way to end our first week of school.”
