Betty Jo Harvey, age 87, died Saturday, September 18, 2010 in St. George, Utah. She was born September 29, 1922 in St. Thomas, Nevada to Alfred Luke and Verda Lorene Hannig Syphus. On July 13, 1943 she married Lowell Ent Harvey in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death.
Betty grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was in a serious car accident at the age of 16 that caused her to be blind throughout her life. She lived for many years in Long Beach, California. Through the eyes of her loving, kind husband, she enjoyed ball games, horseback riding, fishing, dancing and visiting Catalina Island. She also enjoyed singing. After her husband’s death she lived with her sister in Logandale and recently she had been living in St. George, Utah.
Survivors include five sisters: Alice Marshall of Logandale, NV; Patsy (Bob) Patchin of Las Vegas, NV; Linda (Bill) Johnson of Chewelah, WA; Mary (LaMont) Johnson of Reno, NV; Ann Mayfield of Westminster, CA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred LaMar Syphus, Lawrence Strasser and one sister, Joy Syphus.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Logandale Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, September 24, 2010 from 6 – 7 at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah and again from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Moapa Valley Mortuary, Logandale, Nevada.
