A large area in Lin’s parking lot was taken over Saturday in the name of Child Safety. The event, sponsored by the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, had many different stations to help parents learn how to keep their children safe.
Penny Blair, a certified technician in child safety seat inspections, spent the time during the event checking car seats and demonstrating to parents exactly how to install them to best ensure that their children stay safe in the car.
The Cooperative Extension also provided free bike helmets to children, along with a customized fitting to make sure the helmet offered optimal protection.
Alsum Insurance agency and local Metropolitan Police were fingerprinting kids for the Fingerprint ID kits. Children got to get their fingers “dirty” while police officers fingerprinted them.
The Cappalappa Family Resource Center was in attendance demonstrating the very real dangers of Shaken Baby Syndrome. Penny Vallone and Tami Kostner had dolls that showed how little impact or shaking it takes to cause this condition in an infant.
The volunteers from Logandale Fire Station 73 and Overton Fire Station 74 were available to give children tours of their trucks, as well as an opportunity for kids to try on a fireman’s gear.
Carol Jolley from Lin’s Marketplace was serving up hotdogs to the crowd, along with drinks provided by Overton McDonald’s.
