OBITUARY: Jeffrey Hackler

Jeffrey Edward Hackler passed away on September 22, 2010, in Las Vegas, NV after a short illness. He was born on February 18, 1947 in Oak Park, Illinois to Calvin and Jeanne Hackler. On August 20, 1976 he married Karen Lee Weigel in Las Vegas, NV.

Jeff became an avid surfer after moving with his family to California in 1960. After graduation from Westchester High School in 1965, he served in the military with Naval Air. Following his service, he settled in Colorado to help his parents with a newly purchased ranch in Collbran and to complete a teaching degree from the University of Northern Colorado. For over 20 years he shared in unique and effective ways, his passion for life and knowledge, teaching Math and Science to students who consistently showed their love and admiration for him as a teacher and mentor.

When he wasn’t teaching, he continued enjoying life through various hobbies. He loved refurbishing and racing classic cars. He returned to his love of horses, raising Buckskin horses and competing in Team Sorting. In June of 2010, he placed in the top ten in the state of Nevada, qualifying him for the National Finals. He loved life and lived it to the fullest.

Survivors include his wife, Karen, his son, Brian, granddaughter, Kylee all of Overton, NV; his mother, Jeanne Hackler; two sisters, Lauren (Ron) Michaelson and Marion (Greg) Brake all of Grand Junction, CO and his uncle, Lewis Hackler of Tazewell, VA.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Jeff’s name to your local animal shelter or Chessie Rescue.

Funeral services were held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at the Moapa Valley Mortuary in Logandale, Nevada. Interment was in the Cedar Crest Cemetery, Collbran, Colorado under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.
