The Southern Nevada Bluegrass Music Society (SNBMS) celebrates 21 years of bringing the best in Bluegrass to the Logandale Fairgrounds at the So. Nevada Bluegrass Festival taking place this weekend October 8-10.
This year’s festival will include an exciting lineup of performers with seven different bands coming from all over the United States.
This year’s festival will feature Jerry Butler and the Blu-J’s. Based out of Knoxville, Tennessee this band has been entertaining audiences since their first appearance in March 2009. They offer traditional bluegrass songs, gospel and some familiar classic country songs done in their own style.
Celebrating their 23rd year, the High Plains Tradition will also be playing at this year’s festival. Their stage show is a mix of fabulous Bluegrass and Gospel music and an occasional funny tune mixed in with good humor and a lot of energy.
The Desert Ramblers, also in attendance at this year’s festival, are a regional band with national recognition hailing from Salt Lake, Summit and Cache counties. The band blends harmonies with smoking instrumental breaks.
Since their entrance onto the bluegrass scene, The Chapman Family has been delighting crowds all over the United States and will do so this weekend at the local festival. Formed in 1989 with the talents of Bill and Patti and their three boys John, Jeremy and Jason, they provide tight, driving, intense energy that has brought them national recognition.
Society member band, Lonesome Otis, will be making another Logandale appearance this year. This band formed in Southern California and is a combination of new and experienced talent. With clean instrumentals and tight harmonies they put on a great show.
The Nay Family Band will also be coming to Logandale this weekend. This is a five piece bluegrass band involving the whole family including mom and dad: Tammy and David; as well as the kids: Alexis (19) Katie (16) and Megan (13).
The Bluegrass Festival will go non-stop throughout the weekend with music on and off stage. Available off-stage will be 24 hour jamming, RV and tent camping, food and craft vendors and music workshops.
Event passes are available at the gate. Daily admission is $15 for general, $12 for seniors and $5 for juniors. For additional information call (702) 566-9372 or go to www.snbms.org.
