The 2010 election of a Senator from Nevada is the big event this year. The candidates have been narrowed to Harry Reid, a veteran senator, and Sharron Angle, a newcomer to Washington.
The political commercials have been pounding radio and TV with the usual editing and distortions portraying the other candidate as a complete fool. The reality is that both candidates are probably decent people and support what they believe would be the best path for Country. The question to ask is “What Americans believe the role of government should be in the lives of its citizens”?
Harry Reid represents the traditional politician and is very experienced in using successful strategy to accomplish his agenda. There is no question that he is a good politician and fights for the causes he believes in. Reid also has a lot of money (multi-millions) and support from the “power brokers” to make his case. As the Senate Majority Leader, Reid is powerful and can have great influence on pushing legislation through Congress. If your only concern is what money Reid can bring back to Nevada or how he can help individual situations, then Harry is your man.
My objection to Senator Reid is that he has been successful in achieving a health care law that will allow the IRS to be more involved in auditing your life, jail you for noncompliance, does not treat each state equally and forces individuals to purchase products they may not want; let alone other major faults in the law that are yet to be implemented. How foolish to believe that insurance companies will be able to provide more and more mandated services and not expect the cost of those services to be paid for by the customer, you and me.
The other issue that concerns me is the strong and vocal support that Reid has made for the Cap and Trade law. This ought to concern Nevada citizens and all Americans because it will set up another program that insiders will make millions of dollars on and increase the cost of electricity dramatically.
The false statement that solar and geo-thermal energy sources will be available soon to compensate for the lack of coal and gas produced electricity is foolish. It will take many years for those technologies to provide enough energy to take care of our needs. In the mean time, prepare yourself to pay much higher rates to Overton Power to provide us electricity.
In every poll I have read, Nevada has opposed by a large majority the Health Care law and the proposed Cap and Trade law. These are two issues that will affect every American directly. Reid says Nevada is wrong and he knows better. It is time for Reid to retire. His philosophy on the role of government is flawed.
On these two issues alone, I will vote for Sharron Angle. She will vote to repeal the Health Care law and oppose Cap and Trade. I don’t care if she does not accomplish one other thing than stop Harry Reid and his controlling agenda.
It is time that individuals and States stop electing and expecting national representatives to solve all our challenges, tax us more and then play Santa Claus by providing another government program.
Remember… “We are the government and are only here to help you”. Nevada can give a true gift to America and not send Harry Reid back to the Senate.
