The Moapa Valley Cross Country athletes competed in the Lake Mead Invitational on Saturday, September 9. This 5K race took place at the Veteran’s Memorial Park in Boulder City. Pirate Cross Country Teams competed against other 3A, 2A, and 1A schools.
Josh Thompson was unchallenged in the boy’s race, winning first place with a time of 17:32. The next competitor was a full 1:30 seconds behind Thompson.
Milas Sendlein came in fifth place overall, running a personal best time of 20:26 and Cody Woods placed 11th with a season best time of 21:04.
Shae Bryant, still recovering from illness, took 12th place with 21:11 and Brendan Watkins returned from an injury to win 13th place with 21:40.
Tyler Reynolds finished in 16th place with a season best of 22:34 and Tyler Winzenreid placed 19th with 23:26. Ryan Leachman came in 22nd place with 23:45 and Garrett Traasdahl crossed the finish line 24th in 24:54.
While still not running the full team, the MVHS Boy’s team was able to win the team trophy in the small school division at the meet.
The Girl’s Team competed well also despite being short two runners on the team. Jessany Mortensen led the Lady Pirates, placing in the top ten and running the course in 26:19. DJ Carter finished next in the MVHS Girls team, running a personal best time of 32:49 with Jessica Robison running a season best time of 33:21 behind her. Allie Cooper improved to 44:46 this season.
Next Saturday, the Pirates will travel to Palo Verde for the Regional Championships. This will be their final meet before the 3A Division Championship in Laughlin on October 29.
