St. John’s Catholic Church in Logandale held its annual Fall Fiesta on Saturday, October 16. The Fall Fiesta is an annual tradition looked forward to by many residents in the Moapa Valley. This year the Fiesta was pulled together in only three weeks. The members of the Church decided at last minute that they had to hold the Festival as it is a community tradition.
The Festival’s focus is usually on food, and this year was no different. There were food booths galore, focusing on a variety of different dishes, including corn on the cob, tamales, tostadas, fajitas, posole, empanadas, and enchiladas. There was also a bake sale booth and a drink booth, which featured homemade lemonade. For more American fare, folks could purchase hamburgers or hot dogs as well.
Traditionally the tamale booth has been the most popular, with people lining up to buy tamales by the dozen. Due to the last minute decision to hold the festival, this year the booth was taking orders for tamales, to be delivered in 2-3 weeks. If you still want to purchase tamales, call the Church at 398-3998 by Friday, October 22 to place your order.
Scattered among the food booths were other booths as well. There was the Catholic Gift Shop which offered a variety of religious items for sale. There was a thrift shop booth as well.
Entertainment was held throughout the day, including Ballet Folklorico dancers and music by Alicia Silva. Isabel Tamayo led the dancers in a variety of traditional dances reflecting the culture of Mexico. At one point Tamayo asked for participants from the audience to come up and learn a traditional dance.
Kids could purchase tickets to play a variety of games, including a jump house and basketball hoops. At each station, kids could win prizes for participating.
All proceeds from the event go towards supporting St. John’s Catholic Church.
