By Dave Belcher

Moapa Valley Progress

At Boulder City last week, the Eagles lead Bonanza 14-7 at the half after Combs and Washburn each scored touchdowns. The score was tied at 17 after three quarters. Boulder City had to settle for a 23 yard field goal to tie it.

The bottom fell out for the Eagles when Bonanza scored on an 18 yard run for a touchdown. Then the Bengals iced the win with a 54 yard touchdown run.

The Eagles travel to Jeff Keel Stadium Friday night. If theyloses to Moapa their season will end next week against Durango’s J.V.

Moapa and Virgin Valley would then play in back to back week’s guaranteed. Each Moapa and Virgin Valley would have one league win. In this scenario, the winner between the Dawgs and Pirates would host the 1st round game Saturday November 6. If Boulder wins it would make Moapa have to beat Virgin Valley to force a three way tie and require tie breakers for the top 2 teams.

In Mesquite last Friday, Virgin Valley was down 6-14 at the half. Urias threw a 30 yard touchdown to Dee Bowler. Then Daniel Gleave ran for a touchdown to beat Palo Verde’s J.V. 19-16.Virgin Valley plays at Coronado Friday in preparation for the battle of the hammer.

Up North

Dayton beat Sparks 27-0, Onstott rushed for 163 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Elko beat Wooster 45-14. Elko has only one loss on the year. Truckee 34-0.

Spring Creek turned the season around by changing their offense three weeks ago. Losing three of the first four games to start the season running the wing “T” offense, Coach Joel Judd took his team back to the power “I” where the Spartans have won three straight including a surprise of beating Lowry two weeks ago.

Last Saturday afternoon Spring Creek pounded South Tahoe 66-19. Logan Irwin rushed for 321 yards on 18 carries. He scored 6 touchdowns. He ran twice after the half then sat the rest of the game.

Spring Creek is now 3-3 in League. With a Lowry loss to Truckee Saturday, Spring Creek would have a chance at 3rd place and hosting the first round playoff game. However, they will need to beat arch rival Elko who has only one loss.
